Des Moines, Iowa – Tomorrow, Senator John Edwards will kick off his “Main Street Express” bus tour, with remarks at the Polk County Convention Complex in Des Moines. Actors Kevin Bacon and Tim Robbins will join Senator Edwards for parts of the 8-day tour. Today, the Edwards campaign also launched a “Six Degrees of John Edwards” organizing drive and “The John Edwards Book Club” as part of its ongoing effort to strengthen its statewide base of support and reach out to undecided caucus goers. The Six Degrees of John Edwards program encourages Edwards supporters to take action and engage undecided caucus goers in Senator John Edwards’ campaign. One of the actions includes hosting a John Edwards Book Club meeting, so undecided caucus goers can read about Edwards’ specific plans for change in his 80-page policy book, “The Plan to Build One America: Bold Solutions for Real Change.”

“Building a winning organization in Iowa means mobilizing volunteers, winning over undecided caucus goers and signing up supporters,” said Jennifer O’Malley Dillon, the campaign’s Iowa state director. “At the Iowa caucuses, passionate supporters who are willing to persuade their friends, family and neighbors are the most important endorsers a candidate can have. ‘Six Degrees of John Edwards’ and ‘The John Edwards Book Club’ give our supporters fun new ways to engage and mobilize their friends and family to support John Edwards on January 3.”
The Six Degrees of John Edwards program offers supporters simple ways to help the campaign organize as Caucus Day approaches. It encourages Iowans to perform one of six organizing actions: Perform six hours of volunteer work and/or sign up to canvass in what will likely be six-degree weather, bring six signed supporter cards to an event, bring six undecided caucus goers to an event, tell six friends about Edwards and his policy book, write six letters to the editor or commit to organizing a John Edwards Book Club at your house with at least six undecided friends. Upon completion of their organizing action, supporters will receive a voucher, which they can redeem for campaign memorabilia autographed by Edwards, Academy Award-winner Tim Robbins or Golden Globe-nominated actor Kevin Bacon at any John Edwards for President event between December 11 and December 17, 2007.

In conjunction with Six Degrees of John Edwards, the campaign is also launching a new organizing tool, The John Edwards Book Club, to reach out to undecided caucus goers and share Edwards’ detailed plans to tackle the important issues facing our country. Volunteers will host book club-style house parties and invite six or more undecided friends or family members to discuss Edwards’ policy book, “The Plan to Build One America: Bold Solutions for Real Change.” The 80-page book contains Edwards’ specific policies to build One America and reflects his commitment to making sure caucus goers know where he stands on the important issues facing our country.
